Post #6: Parable of the Sower

I do not believe that people having "hyperempathy" would make the world a peaceful place. While it may curb SOME people from doing evil deeds, there are always going to be sociopaths in this world. I think something Lauren said perfectly embodies this. After she kills a man who attacked her party, she writes:
“He could not regain consciousness and involve me in his agony.” (189)
To be fair, the man DID attack them first, and they’re living in a “kill-or-be-killed” society. But if Lauren, a good person who only kills if it’s her life or their’s, is thinking this way...what’s to stop the Jeffery Dahmers of the world from continuing to commit such atrocities? If anything, hyperempathy might cause someone who was only planning on hurting someone to flat out kill them to avoid pain.
